When I started University, I promised myself that I would purchase my very first "grown up sofa" as my graduation gift. After much studying, and not a lot of sleep, I am finally approaching the day where I can finally make this dream come true! I have to say, the thought of owning my first piece real piece of furniture (i.e not from IKEA or from my friends and family) is absolutely exhilarating.

Finding THE perfect sofa is much harder than I thought. There are so many factors to consider and I learned this quickly enough! My first heart throb was the Karlstad from IKEA (photo above), a mid-century style sofa with an affordable price tag. After taking a half-day trip to the infamous mega-store, though, my boyfriend and I realized that the Karlstad doesn't feel right at all! The cushions aren't very comfortable for the tush, and the poor sofa looks very "cheap" and sad after being sat on a few times. So, I moved on...

Seen above is the Petrie from Crate&Barrel, my second "coup de foudre". When comparing the two sofas, the Petrie is the clear winner with its tufted pillows, clean lines and cute legs. I got very excited thinking about this sofa!

Although, now I am back to the very start. You see, I try to keep my boyfriend as involved as possible in the process of finding the perfect couch (this will be his sofa too!). A few weeks ago, he told me he would much rather own a sectional because he would love to lounge on the long end. At that point I agreed to his request because I thought I could find a sofa that would satisfy both our needs and wants without a hitch! I was, after all, now very sofa-savvy!

After a lot of research, I've discovered that finding a nice looking sectional around 2000$ is really hard. What do you guys think? Do any of you know of any good stores out there selling gorgeous sectionals that could make a student's dreams come true?

Heals in London is fabulous place for sectional sofas. Also our store John Lewis stocks individual and unique pieces, far from the homogeneity of Ikea. A sofa is indeed one of the most important pieces of furniture to invest in, like one's bed. My sofa came from Heals and I have had it for 12 years! It is very comfortable and loungy which is why I bought it.
