Will you talk to stranger?

I was at Starbucks today, working on my laptop.  I was Facebooking, actually. By my latest count I have about 100 virtual friends whom I never met, yet I know a lot about them--like what they did last weekend and such.

What struck me as odd was that there were about a dozen of people at Starbucks hooking on their laptops at the same time.  I don't know what they were doing, but I was thinking--how strange is it that we can socialize on the web, yet we find it so hard to connect in person?

What about you?  Do you find it harder and harder to make friends in real life?
